Da Vinci Code - Clears the last hurdle!!
The most awaited movie of this year, if not this century, is about to release tomorrow in India. There were few speculations that the Indian government might temporarily hold up the release of the movie - "Da Vinci Code" after receiving complaints from the Catholic groups, even though the national censor board had already cleared the film. But atlast, it had crossed the last hurdle; the Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Das Munsi will also not intervene in the release of the movie.

Seems like the majority of the Catholics around the globe cannot digest the innovated theory that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. I think, everyone have their freedom to express their thoughts. So, there is nothing wrong in the novel and in it's video form. Extending the same argument, there is nothing wrong if someone comes up with his comments against the film?! But, that should be just another reivew or statement. These comments shouldn't be given more weightage and ban the film. If someone feels that the theme of the film is inappropriate then let them not watch the movie?! In that way, the whole issue was handled properly by the Indian ministry and the sensor board. So, now the movie will be shown in India, with A-Certification and lingering disclaimers.

But, anyway it's hard to envisage why the best selling novel wasn't banned so far but heavy protests were already made against the video form of the same novel, even before the release of the movie?! Though, one might argue that the movies have a wider reach than the books!!

Now the funny part...Ian McKellen, who plays Leigh Teabing in The Da Vinci Code, sought to make light of the controversy. "I'm very happy to believe that Jesus was married. I know the Catholic Church has problems with gay people and I thought this would be absolute proof that Jesus was not gay," he said. :-)

    Good thing man!!!
But i have a few reservations abt ur "innovated theory" statement :)

There is a long lasting theory that the New Testament has been "tweaked" at various places to make it more effective. People who have compared the old and the new testament have noticed huge differences in the way Jesus, Mary et al have been portrayed in these two books. There is this theory abt some pope in some century who was behind all such stuff. The history of the holy grail, priory of zio - all these are not something new. And yeah - there is also wide spread belief that all this is true.

And no - these are not twisted theories from the mind of a nerd. I heard all these from my mentor who is a RC by birth :)

    Karthik, how abt this weekend?
I was happy that I knew the name of the hero. Pradeep agains stumps us with Ian McKellan. Namakku tamizh konjam konjam therinjirundhu rajiniya identify panna, It has my favorite actor nazar, andh rangeku reply panni, this guy will stump us. (I know Idayathullah will feel like saying I also know Ian McKellan. But machi I know you have been buying 10 dvds a week and mugging up the names of the characters. That is bongu aattam and not accepted.)

Karthik: I told exactly the points you said, yesterday at lunch with my friends here. One of them later called me and advised NOT to speak on such sensitive topics for it may disturb people who believe in whatever. Though I didn't understand what was sensitive about it but I thought it was a good idea to keep quiet. Be it relegion or caste we don't who has what sentiment.

@kart: dont go with the ppl of TV da.
Some are "really" their own creation (i'm not accusin NDTV by anyway - i'm trying to make a generic statement here), some are mastered (like our own "Ayyo! Kolai pannraanga" thing) and in some other cases, it is the fun of being in camera that moves up the enthu level of ppl :)
