Reservation - another one |
My friend Sunil was averse towards joining any governmental position and he preferred IT industry since he felt the intrusion of caste is least there. What would be his reaction after reading this? |

Too much da. This is not fair. If this includes even IT companies, then it will be end of the party for the Indian IT boom. Not fair at all.
Dharam Singh is also lobbying to implement reservations for local kannadigas in the Bangalore IT companies.

Precisely what you told, Pradeep, is the problem in my father's company. There is a difference in introducing reservations in work as opposed to education. It is not like single window system where everything was open. Things like hike and promotion, even now is vague and involves lot of politics. Now add reservations and government sponsered prejudices into this. You'll be left with utter chaos. In my father's company there is a cold war going on between two categories, in which not just employees, even the executives are divided and prejudiced. So the net result was everyone says, "ask the person to work. then i will". Sometimes I wonder is it time for a strong opposition and struggle against the politicians dividing the people for their votes. Till now, people like us never cared about politics because they were doing something and we were at something else. We didn't interfere with each other. That's the reason some of us didn't even bother to vote or even think of how to choose the ideal candidate. But the recent create-controversy spree by the government needs to be checked before the country's growth reverses.

Hmmm... you are rite da, these reservations will be in effect eternally. Then, people will comeup with new strategies to cope up this issue.
I could imagine the election manifesto of a FC candidate - "X% of our community men are below the poverty line. So when I come to power, our community will be categorized under MBC. So, vote for kuja chinnam."

Wipro chairman Mr. Azim Premji's comment on reservation:
I think we should have job reservations in all the fields. I completely support the PM and all the politicians for promoting this. Let's start the reservation with our cricket team. We should have 10 percent reservation for Muslims. 30 percent for OBC, SC/ST like that. Cricket rules should be modified accordingly. The boundary circle should be reduced for an SC/ST player. The four hit by an OBC player should be considered as a six and a six hit by an OBC player should be counted as 8 runs. An OBC player scoring 60 runs should be declared as a century. We should influence ICC and make rules so that the pace bowlers like Shoaib Akhtar should not bowl fast balls to our OBC player. Bowlers should bowl maximum speed of 80 kilometer per hour to an OBC player. Any delivery above this speed should be made illegal. Also we should have reservation in Olympics. In the 100 meters race, an OBC player should be given a gold medal if he runs 80 meters. There can be reservation in Government jobs also. Let's recruit SC/ST and OBC pilots for aircrafts which are carrying the ministers and politicians (that can really help the country...) Ensure that only SC/ST and OBC doctors do the operations for the ministers and other politicians. (Another way of saving the country...) Let's be creative and think of ways and means to guide INDIA forward... Lets show the world that INDIA is a GREAT country. Let's be proud of being an INDIAN... May the good breed of politicians like ARJUN SINGH long live...\

I discussed this with my Mentor @ office. We had a long discussion, which lasted for almost 90 mins or so. I was all for the "Go the merit way" or "Go the economy way" funda i keep mentioning to u ppl and the rest of the world. My mentor had some really interesting stuff to say in this regard. He is not for the Quota system himself but has done some really interesting analysis of the stuff.
I'll analyse all that myself and will put up a post in my blog sometime - with a link here ofcourse :) i dont have the time to type all that now - but the core thing is that in a "democracy" (why under quotes?? u'll know soon) - it is fair to reserve stuff on the basis of demographic factors. And this whole reservation thing is so complexed that it need an organuised effort by many ppl for the goods of the policy to actually reach the really needy ppl. I know how confusing i sound - will try to explain soon.
And last but not the least - 2 things. The private companies (and their rich owners), which have not done anything for the company apart from exploit the huge wealth og human labour in the country and filled their pockets have no fucking rights to voice ANY opinion reg the reservation in educational systems thingy. Who are they to comment on that??? What have they done to the nation/educational system as such for them to jump their guns now??? And yes - in an exactly similar argument, the govt has no rights to ask the private sectors to follow their own reservation policy. It is just not their premise at all.
I guess i'm making statements of all kinds, without any justification at all. Will do soon. Gotta go now :)
