One thing i am sure da.
Given the power in our hands (internet - information), we shud have been able to say this is my goal and this is how i achieve it.

But still, v r meandering in our own world.
    Hmm... what shud i do???

    We lack vision machi.

I believe most of us are NOT complacent.
And some of us have that divine vision in our regular daydreams :). My interpretation of vision is the end point da. May be we lack the guts and effort to push us forward. As once discussed ECE is in our blood and we have great inclination towards 'mokkai'.
Let me not deviate (rather polambify :) ) My intention was to bring up a discussion on, "Does it make any sense to think about full time master degree anymore?"

Moms, these things can't be generalized.

I still firmly believe that if one has a chance to do his masters next year (at the age of 25/26), he should def do it. It would help one in the longer run. Proably if time is a constraint, it can be even 1 year masters in management?!

It will give you an edge over the rest of the crowd.

If v guys know what to do and v have been failing thats o.k.
But atleast in my case, i don't know the end point.

I wud tell the requirement. can u tell what sort of goal i am pursuing or in other words what part of mba am i looking at.

In a big manufacturing industry, probably a chip-fab centre or some auto industry, I am in-charge of product delivery or process control.

Shouting at workers about the deadline. Hell of politics around me. Heirarchy of management is so prevelant. ppl call me sir. no frequenct jumps. the real man thing.

    Perhaps a bit late!!!
Nevertheless - this is my view about doing masters!!!

Having born in a country like India - we are made to believe that the student life of someone dies by 25/26. Full Time academics after 25??? This seems to be a crazy thing in our part of the world. If we look elsewhere, I see that this is the ripest period for someone to pursue his higher studies - especially Management. Really - I haven’t investigated on anything else, but have found almost a similarity in the case of science studies as well.

Look at us - we have a solid (?!?!?) bachelors degree and have worked for 4 solid years (by June 2007)!!! 4 long years in a company must have thought us a lot of stuff - in whatever we are interested in. For a B School aspirant - he must have learnt a lot of "how the team works”,"how the company works", "how the corporate bull shits" etc etc. For the techies - they must have learnt "how projects are run", "how stuff works", "what technology is really THE thing now" and the like. Simply put - we have the experience and the exposure it brings along after all these years in a company. REALLY - this is when someone must do his masters!!!

The average age students in most of the B Schools are 25, and that's the minimum I’ve ever seen. If we speak about an average of these averages - we should be looking at 27 - 28.

I don’t clearly understand what this vision thingy is. Look at us - we are discussing NOW about what we are gonna do in the NEXT year!!! We really dunno. How can we visualize what we wanna do after, say, 10 years!!! We lack a lot of things to do that. I tried doing that a multiple times and there were holes all over the place which I had to fill - questions to be answered. This vision thing is really difficult - but it is really doable. I kind of have the clarity on what I wanna do and I guess I am beginning to move in the correct direction.

Sunil - it makes all the sense in the world to do a full time masters NOW. You have experience and you haven’t blunted your brain completely. You can still get back to student hood - at 25. It would be nearly impossible at 30 and definitely at 35!!! This IS the time to do it. You guys just do some digging around, see what is happening in the colleges, and if you still FEEL it - you HAVE it within :) I know I do ;)

BTW - I firmly believe that a Masters must be done as a Full Time course, unless you are extremely bound by situational parameters which don’t allow you to do that. It is more of a knowledge sharing, team working, and contact building exercise - than merely succeeding in 20 odd papers. Definitely not the BE exp we had. You cannot fulfill any of the requirements of a full time master’s course with a part time course - and this clearly shows in the industry's response to the part time course. The 1 yr course is great - but i think you will have to work extremely hard to chage industries in this. If your'e looking to get back into IT - the 1 yr course is perhaps the best thing u've got out there.

Ram - you sound like the typical Henry Ford man!!! I guess you have been bullied by a lot of ppl ;)
The catch word today is participative management (Anyone read "Maverick" by Semler?!?!). What you wanna do is from the old school of management - what we can call the Authoritative Management (i dont know the correct word). There are companies following both of them these days - but to my knowledge, more and more are moving towards the former.

Conclusion - i beleive that we should still be looking to do a full time masters course next year. This is a ideal state statement without taking into consideratios any kind of bindings or dependencies.
Even in the India B schools (atleast in the IIMs) the average age of students is arounf 24 - 25 i guess :)
We are there guys - 1 year of failure does not mean that we should accept defeat :)
Well - i'm not going to...
